H) TEACHING EXPERIENCE

About fourteen (14) years teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate students of electrical engineering including seminars, tutorials and practical sessions as well as specialized industrial short courses. Subject areas include:

Electric Power Engineering. Several specializations in power system; analysis, design, operation and control. Design, operation and maintenance of AC y DC transmission system.

bullet

High Voltage Engineering. Insulation, overvoltage: calculation, coordination and protection. Grounding,

bullet

Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation. Modelling and simulation. Technical and economic studies to evaluate the impact of integration in power system.

A lot of courses and teaching materials was developed (all material in Spanish, some of these materials are at: http://www.fglongatt.org.ve/CursosPreyPostgrado.html). Furthermore, course and program material have been developed, including the program of Distributed generation for the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela (http://www.fglongatt.org.ve/Archivos/SistGD.html).

A large number of courses in the area of electrical engineering have been coordinated and supervised: Power systems, electrical machineries, electrical circuits, transmission lines, etc. These activities include: assessment, recruitment and supervision of lecturers.

Currently responsible for the acquisition of funds and program management of research in Universidad Nacional Experimental Politécnica de la Fuerza Armada and Grupo de Investigaciones Avanzadas en Energia Electrica giaELEC (www.giaelec.org).

Current areas of research activity include:

Investigate modelling, analysis and solution methodologies, computational tools and techniques, and the effective application of computing and intelligent systems to the various operational, planning, economic, risk, and uncertainty assessment, management and decision making problems in bulk power and distribution systems.

Develop analytical models which are used in the study of system dynamic performance, system planning, system operations and distribution system analysis.

bullet

Problems and their solutions in large-scale integration of wind, photovoltaic, gas-turbine power in electric utility-grid. Impact of distributed generation on power system security, stability and operation of deregulated systems.

Large scale computer simulation in connection with some of the above.

bullet

At a departmental level, spearheaded initiatives in power electronics and power system component modelling and simulation.
