New form of energy resources and
integration
The rapid development of
distributed generation (DG) and new technologies of
generation are gradually reshaping the conventional
power systems in a number of countries in the Western
Europe and North America. These generating systems are
different from the conventional generation system based
in synchronous generator. This new aspects provide a los
of areas to provide a contribution to the universal
knowledge.

A)
VISION
Moving towards global
prosperity by strengthening technological innovation,
creating opportunities for electric power systems of the
future through knowledge-based products.
B)
OBJECTIVE
Innovate in the
development, use and application of technology to seize
opportunities and energy resources for electricity
generation for the development of innovative energy
products.
C) RESEARCH INTEREST
Since 2002 the Professor
Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt started to research in new
technologies of generation and distributed generation.
His PhD proportioned a great view of the opportunities
of research in some aspects considered challenging in
this areas. The three axis of research interest of
Professor Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt include: (i)
Modelling and simulation (ii) integration and (iii)
development of prototypes.

(I)
Development of prototypes. Pursuing the
generation of knowledge to the actual implementation of
prototypes of alternative energy sources, which can
measure in a controlled performance from them, and lay
the foundation for cognitive modelling and simulation.

Image of the EOLO-1
Project. This is a first Venezuelan prototype of small
wind turbine using single case induction generator
directly connected to the grid. The leader of this
project is Professor Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt and
It is under developing with
www.giaelec.org and
UNEFA-Maracay, Venezuela.
(II)
Modelling and Simulation. Involves the
reproduction of the real phenomena of alternative energy
sources and distributed generation through mathematical
abstractions that allow a simple way to infer
considerations, and issues related to the actual
operation, through simulations.

Professor Francisco M.
Gonzalez-Longatt has developed a lot of models in
Matlab-Simulink, e.g. Photovoltaic arrays, batteries,
inverter, micro turbines, fuel cells, etc.
(III)
Integration. Corresponds to research the
causes and effects of all phenomena associated with the
use of alternative energy sources and distributed
generation, including production of knowledge and
creation of standards that establish requirements for
security, economic, and environmental regulations.

Integration studies is a
important aspect to research. Professor Francisco M.
Gonzalez-Longatt has developed a great number of
programs useful to make the integration studies. A
complete list of some programs developed by Professor
Francisco Gonzalez-Longatt are shown in
modelling and
simulation page.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ASPECTS

E) MAIN
PROJECTS

Porject EOLO presuit the
develop of the development of the first Venezuelan
prototype of small wind turbine using single case
induction generator directly connected to the grid. The
leader of this project is Professor Francisco M.
Gonzalez-Longatt and It is under developing with
www.giaelec.org and
UNEFA-Maracay, Venezuela. This project will be installed
at the Universidad Nacional Experimental Politecnica de
la Fuerza Armada Nacional (UNEFA), Venezuela.

Today the original
project EOLO-1 evolution to EOLO-2. This new version is
a small wind turbine prototype but for islanding
purpose. This project is carried out by Alejandro
Carantona as end career project and have received
founding of UNEFA. This project consider about 8500 US$
and It is expected to finish to December of 2009.
Actually, as part of the
project EOLO2 currently in development by the Group for
Advanced Research in Energy and Professor Francisco M.
González-Longatt, in recounts days was erected climate
station called "Guardian of Heaven". This station will
help to quantify the wind resource available at Mariara,
Venezuela.
